insightLM PRIVACY STATEMENT
Version 1.1, effective 2026-10-13
This statement explains what information the insightLM desktop application ("the Software") sends off your computer, what it keeps on your computer, and who receives it. It covers the Software made by AVIAN, LLC ("AVIAN", "we"). It does not cover the AI model providers, search engines, code hosts, or other services you connect the Software to; their own privacy terms apply.
1. WHAT THE SOFTWARE DOES NOT DO
The Software does not include advertising, analytics, usage tracking, or automatic crash reporting. AVIAN does not receive your files, prompts, chats, or results unless you choose to send them to us in a feedback report.
2. WHAT IS SENT, AND TO WHOM
License acceptance. When you accept the End User License Agreement, the Software records the agreement version, the date and time, the app version and edition, your computer's sign-in name, the computer's name, your license ID, and a random install ID. This record is kept on your computer and, where your computer can reach the internet, a copy is sent to AVIAN. If it cannot be sent, the Software keeps trying later. CUI editions never send it; the record stays on your computer.
Updates and extensions. The Software checks AVIAN's servers for updates and for the list of available extensions, and downloads them when you choose to. These requests carry no personal information, but like any internet request they reveal your computer's IP address to the server.
Feedback and bug reports. When you send feedback, or approve a bug report the assistant wrote for you, the Software sends AVIAN what you typed (or what you approved), the app version, the operating system version, a random install ID, and, only if you tick the option, recent app logs with passwords, keys, user folders and email addresses removed. You see what will be sent before it is sent. If sending fails, the report is kept on your computer and sent automatically later. CUI editions never send reports; they let you save them to a file instead.
AI assistant. When you use the AI assistant, the Software sends your request and the information the assistant needs to answer it (which can include the contents of files, notebooks, and earlier messages in the conversation) to the AI model provider configured in the Software, normally Amazon Bedrock. The provider account may be one you control or one AVIAN provides. If AVIAN provides it, AVIAN's account may record which user made each request and how much text it processed, to manage cost. The assistant's built-in web page tool may also send the addresses of pages it opens to Anthropic for a safety check.
Web search. When the assistant searches the web, the search words are sent to a search server AVIAN operates, which passes them on to public search engines. Web pages the assistant opens are requested directly from your computer.
Services you connect. When you connect the Software to other services, for example a git host such as GitHub, an Amazon S3 bucket you import from, another AI provider, or a model server, the Software sends those services what is needed to do what you asked. Some of these run on their own once set up, such as checking an S3 import for changes.
3. WHAT IS KEPT ON YOUR COMPUTER
The Software keeps your projects, chats, assistant session history, settings, license, license acceptance record, and app logs on your computer. Logs have passwords, keys, user folders and email addresses removed and are limited in size. Passwords and access keys you save in the Software are stored in files in your user profile; protect access to your computer account accordingly.
4. HOW AVIAN USES WHAT IT RECEIVES
AVIAN uses license acceptance records to know who has accepted which version of the license. AVIAN uses feedback to fix problems and improve the Software. AVIAN does not sell this information. AVIAN deletes feedback reports after 180 days and keeps license acceptance records for as long as they are needed as a record of the agreement.
5. CHANGES
If AVIAN changes this statement, the new version will be available from the Help menu in the Software and on the insightLM website.
